Prospect Heights school systems are well known for their commitment to excellence and genuine sense of caring. While most of Prospect Heights is served by Elementary School District #23, some is served by Elementary School Districts #21 and #26. The Village of Wheeling's Discovery Center provides a separate building for science classes to District #21 children. There are two private schools close to Prospect Heights.

Prospect Heights is in High School District #214 and students attend Wheeling High School or John Hersey High School. Both schools have been awarded the Excellence in Education award sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. Both high schools meet the unique needs and interests of the students with extensive student activities and athletic programs.

For higher education, William Rainey Harper College, based in Palatine, offers two-year certificate and degree programs and has an extension campus in Prospect Heights.
