Police Warn Public about Solicitation
Metropolitan Alliance of Police (MAP) is the labor union representing patrol officers and sergeants employed by the Prospect Heights Police Department for collective bargaining and legal representation purposes.
Typically, MAP solicits residents and businesses within Prospect Heights once a year. The Prospect Heights Police Department would like to remind residents and business owners that solicitations made on behalf of MAP are made by employees of a professional fundraising enterprise and not Prospect Heights Police Officers or Sergeants themselves.
Prospect Heights Officers or Sergeants are not involved in soliciting money from residents or businesses over the telephone for any purpose, as this practice is prohibited by department policy.
Donations requested in the name of MAP fundraising go to support union activities and are not given to the Prospect Heights Police Department, itself. A good way to identify this type of solicitation is when the solicitor offers to send a representative to a home or business to collect the donation. This practice has been common amongst professional fundraising firms in the past. Solicitors who claim that donated funds directly assist the police department are misrepresenting the facts.
