Local Roots, Global Impact: Emily Reng's Miss Universe Journey

Emily Reng 3Heights proudly celebrates resident Emily Reng, who recently represented Poland at the 2025 Miss Universe Competition in Thailand. This incredible achievement reflects not only her global perspective and dedication but also the strong foundation she built growing up right here in Prospect Heights. Emily’s journey is a story of embracing identity, balancing cultures, and showing that no dream is too big when combined with hard work, resilience, and community support.

Emily has called Prospect Heights home since she was just six months old, and her early years were deeply rooted in the city’s schools and programs. She began her education at Gary Morava Preschool, a place that helped nurture her curiosity and creativity from an early age. She continued her studies in School District 23, attending local elementary and middle schools where she was always an active and engaged student. Later, at John Hersey High School, Emily participated in Show Choir and Cheer—two activities that became her passions and taught her important lessons about teamwork, discipline, and confidence. Today, she continues to grow academically as a student at the University of South Carolina, balancing her studies with the unique experiences that led her to Miss Universe.

Raised in a Polish household while growing up in Prospect Heights, Emily developed a deep appreciation for both her heritage and her hometown community. From a young age, she spoke Polish with her grandparents and attended Polish Sunday School, where she immersed herself in the language, history, and culture of her family’s roots. Summers spent in Poland allowed her to build close relationships wEmily Reng 4ith her extended family and understand the traditions and values that would shape her character—resilience, warmth, and the importance of family. At the same time, growing up in Prospect Heights gave her confidence, openness, and a sense of belonging, allowing her to engage fully in the local culture while maintaining a strong connection to her Polish heritage. “I grew up in the United States, but I’m also 100% Polish,” Emily said. “Carrying both parts of my identity onto the Miss Universe stage showed me that your background is your power.”

Behind the Scenes at Miss Universe

While many see only the glamour of the Miss Universe stage, Emily emphasizes that the true heart of the competition lies in the connections and experiences behind the scenes. Competing against more than 120 women from around the world, she encountered a mix of excitement, nerves, and genuine support. “Even though we all came from different countries and had different stories, there was this incredible sisterhood,” Emily said. “It felt like being part of something bigger than ourselves—a global celebration of culture, strength, and womanhood.” Between rehearsals in Bangkok, interviews in Pattaya, and visits to the stunning beaches of PhuEmily Reng 2ket, the contestants encouraged and inspired one another, forming bonds that Emily says were unforgettable.

A Moment That Made It Real

For Emily, one of the most memorable and perspective-shifting moments came during rehearsals in Bangkok. Standing on the massive stage under bright lights, surrounded by extraordinary women from every corner of the globe, she realized the magnitude of her accomplishment. “I looked around and thought, ‘I’m really here. I’m one of them,’” Emily recalled. “I grew up watching Miss Universe, and suddenly I was becoming one of the women I once admired on the screen.” As she began receiving messages of support from family, friends, and fans both in Poland and in the United States, the reality of the experience became even more powerful. “It wasn’t just about walking on stage—it was about representing Poland, honoring my family’s journey, and showing girls from home that age doesn’t limit you. I’m 20 years old, competing at Miss Universe.”

A Message for Young Women

Emily stressed the importance of cultivating mental strength alongside physical preparation. She emphasized the need to invest in mental strength to be able to achieve goals and dreams. She hopes her journey inspires young women everywhere to embrace who they are fully and chase bold dreams. “You don’t have to fit into one box or choose one identity to pursue your goals,” she said. “You can come from a small hometown like Prospect Heights, have roots in another country, and still stand confidently on one of the biggest stages in the world.”

Hometown Pride

Even while traveling thousands of miles for three weeks across Thailand—Bangkok, Phuket, and Pattaya—Emily says ProspEmily Rengect Heights remained at the center of her journey. “This experience was built on the values I learned growing up here—hard work, humility, kindness, and community,” she shared. “Your hometown doesn’t limit you—it strengthens you.” Emily hopes her story will encourage others in Prospect Heights to pursue their dreams with courage and perseverance, reminding them that dedication, sacrifice, and belief in oneself can open doors to extraordinary opportunities, no matter where you start.

The City of Prospect Heights congratulates Emily on this remarkable achievement and is proud to see one of its own representing both her heritage and her hometown on a global stage. 🌍💙
