Responsibilities & Services

The Public Works Department is responsible for the city’s:

  • Building Maintenance (City Hall, Public Works Facility,water facility, Train Station, and other Utility Facilities)
  • Forestry (Tree City USA and tree protection Grounds and forestry operations)
  • Grounds Maintenance (Lawn mowing etc. Grounds and forestry operations )
  • Flood Prevention
  • Vehicle Maintenance
  • Snow removal (except for State routes; Rand, Palatine & Elmhurst and County routes; Willow. Schoenbeck, Wheeling, & Euclid)
  • Street Maintenance Streets
  • Sewer Systems (storm-water sewer systems)
  • Water System (only a portion of the city is supplied, all others have individual water wells)
