About the Tourism District Board
The mission of the Tourism District is to promote and improve tourism in the City of Prospect Heights. The City of Prospect Heights Tourism District is an area that includes hotels, the Chicago Executive Airport, and a large number of restaurants and retail. In order to fulfill its mission statement, the Tourism District Board helps fund effective police protection in this zone with an assigned Prospect Heights Police Department Tourism District Officer. The Board, in coordination with the Prospect Heights Public Works Department, is involved in beautification; namely, creating more attractive streetscapes with seasonal plantings, city banners along the Milwaukee Avenue corridor, landscape maintenance, irrigation and lighting.
A large part of tourism public relations involves many activities which may include print and internet advertising, website operations, visitor services, sales lead generation and other significant sales and marketing programs that benefit the City by increasing demand for overnight visitation. The impact of increased demand for overnight visitation provides opportunity for local City businesses and operators to capitalize on providing services to our visitors.
District hotels and motel partners can apply for reimbursement grants to assist with marketing and promotion costs. There are five members appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council. At least three members are owners, operators or otherwise employed by hotels within the Tourism Zone.
